ACADEMICS

The successive academic results of JNVs in public examinations conducted by CBSE and the records about placement of students after passing out from the Vidyalayas are a clear pointer that the Samiti is moving in the right direction. The results of Class X and XII examinations of JNVs have been consistently better than the overall CBSE national averages. All the teachers are asked to prepare target and action plan in the beginning of the academic year. The plan of action must include completion of syllabus, number of above average and below average students, remedial plan, textbooks, reference books, other supporting materials, measures for quality result etc.

Medium Of Instruction(Three Language Formula )

In view of the fact that most of the students admitted were taught earlier through the medium of the mother-tongue/regional language(Malayalam), instruction is provided through the same medium upto Class VIII during which time intensive teaching of Hindi & English both as language and subjects is undertaken through skilful use of the media and modern techniques of teaching languages, so that switch over to Hindi/English after Class VII or VIII presents no difficulty. Thereafter the common medium in all Navodaya Vidyalayas is mother-tongue in junior classes and Hindi or English in senior classes.

Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation

Introduction of the Scheme of Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation is the only alternative to de-emphasis the system of external examinations. The Scheme has been introduced effectively in all the JNVs since 1989-90 with the following objectives :

a) To make evaluation an integral part of teaching learning process.
b) To use evaluation for improvement of students achievement and teaching learning strategies on the basis of regular diagnosis followed by remedial instructions.
c) To make a sound judgment and to plan timely strategies on the basis of regular diagnosis followed by remedial instructions.
d) To facilitate sound judgment and to take timely decisions about the learner, learning process and the learning environment.
e) To maintain desired standard for performance using evaluation as a quality control device.
f) To provide scope for self-evaluation by teachers and students. Special training has been provided to the Principals and teachers to ensure maintenance of CCE records in proper order.

Special planning for class X and XII

As the said classes are going to face the public examinations, the syllabus of the said classes will be completed as early as possible as per the guidelines of the N.V.S., so that teachers will be able to give more and more revision in their subjects.  Students will be classified into different groups i.e. A, B, C, D, E & their performance will be evaluated by full length examinations and simultaneously graphical representation of the progress of the students will be maintained to mark their improvements continuously.

Remedial and Supervisory class

To strengthen the academic performance of the bright students and to increase the performance of low achievers a special time table has been prepared for remedial and supervisory study.
